HiBoy S2 Max Electric Scooter Review

Recently HiBoy sent me another scooter to review and I was excited to try this one out. The HiBioy S2 Max has a large deck, decent sized battery and a 500 Watt motor that was able to propel me to about 20mph/32 KPH around my city navigating smaller hills with ease. I found the geometry of the scooter to be excellent and the height of the handlebars comfortable for my large 6′ frame. After riding it for these past few days I think it would be an excellent scooter for commuting or cruising around the city. It doesn’t have suspension but does have large 10″ air filled tires which I found quite comfortable.

What do I look for in a commuter scooter?

Firstly it needs to be comfortable for longer rides and the Hiboy S2 Max is quite comfortable. The deck is large enough for my large feet and the steering and ride quality is very nice. It has a rubber deck which is so helpful especially if it rains a bit…extra sticky. Speaking of rain, the IP rating on the HiBoy S2 Max is good enough that if I get stuck and it rains on my trip I can comfortably get home without an issue. It’s not waterproof but then no electric scooter is but it will repel some rain which is all I need.

The scooter also needs to have enough power to get me up and down the hills in my city and the 500W motor is perfectly capable on medium hills. Where this scooter really shines however is in the large 48V battery it has in the deck. I can see that longer rides of up to 20 miles would be no problem and I’m a large rider (265lbs) and have ridden it on some long runs without issue. I must say that I’m particularly impressed with this S2 Max. It’s a terrific longer range scooter. It’s built like a tank and I’m riding it quite often as I enjoy the simple but capable scooter.

The brakes on the scooter are perfectly adequate. Nothing to write home about. It’s a simple mechanical brake with some motor braking as well. It’s perfectly fine for the top speed which is 20 Mph (32Kph). Speaking of speed, the S2 Max has three speed settings. It has an eco mode which seems to be 10mph (16Kph), then a Drive mode which has a top speed of 15Mph (24Kph) and then the Sport mode I mentioned.

Last thing I will mention is the cruise control. I love it. I set the power to Sport and once I hit 20MPH the scooter just kicks into cruise and I relax and enjoy the ride. I love cruise control 🙂

I’m delighted with the ride and range of the HiBoy S2 Max and as a bigger guy find myself reaching for it many times during the week for medium length trips throughout the city. I even used it in my most recent video where I help people decide between ebikes and escooters.
