I recently received a Hiboy KS4 and I’m going to share with you what I like, what I don’t like and why I think this could be a really good commuter scooter for you.

The Hiboy KS4 has a 350 watt motor at the front which is powerful enough to get this big guy around town it struggles a bit on the hills and there is a pro version of KS4 which has a more powerful motor so if you’re a bigger guy i’m gonna probably recommend you go with the bigger motor on the the pro version and hopefully i’ll be able to actually review both of them and do a comparison between the two at some point but for now so far so good. One of the really neat things is the folding mechanism. I haven’t seen anything quite like it before but it’s really simple. There’s a little switch on the side and you just lean forward and it clips at the back with an interesting little hook design.

The Hiboy KS4 is quite light, about 34 pounds which makes carrying it up some stairs or putting it in the boot of your car super easy.

One of the things I really like about the ks4 is the rubber deck. I just find that it’s really sticky. It doesn’t slip at all. I really really love that. I really enjoyed the display which is full color and really easy to navigate. You can turn on the light, switch between modes and I find that I cruise at about 17 miles an hour which is about 28 to 30 kilometers an hour so plenty of power for just cruising around town.

One of the other things I really like about the Hiboy KS4 is the cable management. The cable goes straight inside the post and pops out at the bottom and then goes back into the deck. The brake line goes all the way through the deck and comes out of the back. The Hiboy KS4 does have a smaller battery which makes it nice and light but it also means it doesn’t have a huge range. I haven’t done a range test yet. It is a 36 volt system and it’s got a 7.5 amp hour battery in the deck

The Hiboy KS4 does have an app. The information is simple to download, install and navigate. It’s helpful for checking a charge and even has a map integration. I typically don’t use apps like these as I hop on and use my Google maps to navigate the city when needed but it’s nice to see it available especially for those that might be taking it to new places to explore.

So what do I like and what don’t I like about the Hiboy KS4? Well what i don’t like i don’t know if i don’t like it it’s just that 350 watts is a little bit anemic for me. It’s fine for getting around town no problem. I have no issues whatsoever, it just means i have to do a little bit of kicking on the hills. That’s the only thing I really don’t like about it. Everything else I’ve really enjoyed. I love the fact it’s got an integrated bell. I like the fact that it’s got a brake.I like the position of the light at the front and at the height that it’s at. I think that’s a really smart height. The eight and a half inch honeycomb tires are a blast because they take a little bit of the shock out of the road for you and you have the peace of mind that you’re not going to get a flat tire. That’s a big deal especially as a commuter scooter. With air inflated tires, if you’ve got a flat tire and you’re stuck on the side of the road trying to figure out how to get home it can be quite stressful. In that respect there’s a little light at the back. The folding mechanism that I mentioned earlier that’s great and the color display is really simple to operate. The 350 Watt motor is quite peppy. I’ve tried over 50 electric scooters in the past 18 months and not all motors are equal. I tried one recently and it was rated at 350W and it wasn’t nearly as easy to ride or as quick as the Hiboy KS4. I really like the Hiboy KS4. If you’re thinking about buying one and if you’re a little bit lighter than I am it might be a good fit. I mean it’s rated for 220 pounds which is a lot lighter than I am right now as I’m about 263 pounds and it was able to get me around so that’s a thumbs up for me. So two thumbs up from this big guy for this cute little commuter scooter commuter. I highly recommend it.

HiBoy also has a Pro model, the KS4 Pro Electric Scooter that might be a better fit for big guys. it has a larger motor and larger tires. I’m really looking forward to trying this one out 🙂
