Apollo are always making improvements and learning from their mistakes.
Take for example the Apollo City Pro…out for a year and already they’ve got an upgrade package available.
Also the Apollo Pro which hasn’t been released yet but has gone through half a dozen or more updates and versions as they try and get it just right before launch later in 2023
Today I think they’re taking a bold move.
Here’s the Apollo Explorer 2024…it’s got some things that are going to cause some visceral responses.
First up it’s got a replaceable battery, possibly marketing the scooter at the uber eats / door dash crowd?
Could be awesome for long range commuters and heavier riders worried about range.
We don’t know all the numbers yet but being able to replace the battery or even remove the battery and charge it in a different location could be good for safety and security.
Also shipping?
But the big party trick of the Explorer 2024 are the wings!
The foldable foot rests will force the rider to stand side by side instead of one foot forward and one foot back.
This might well be comfortable and will for sure reduce the size of the unit once folded up (can you imagine the space savings in a hallway or in the trunk of a compact car?)
But I think it’s going to cause a love hate response in the electric scooter community.
For riders like myself who like to travel around 20mph/32kph it’s going to make for a comfortable ride. But for the speed demons out there accustomed to riding with one foot forward I think they’re not going to be happy….but time will tell 🙂
The explorer also has the Mach 1 Controller (which I love)
Built in GPS (for theft protection I’m guessing)
DOT display as a backup plus similar to the Pro? a quadlock phone mount.
Self healing tires
turn signals
and as a party trick, built in speakers which will work with the app and Bluetooth I suspect.
Overall a very interesting and perhaps revolutionary style of electric scooter is coming from Apollo and I’m excited to try it out.
Yes, I’ve seen side by side scooters before but I haven’t tried one and with a swappable battery this could be a game changer for many riders.
What do you think?
Is the side by side a winner or looser? Swappable battery good idea or fail?
